value, conservation, bus, trip planner

Does riding the bus really save you money?

So I’ve been thinking about other ways to save money.  One such way is to take the bus.  My metro bus line provides a trip planner to help plan your journey.  For me to go from my house to my office (I selected “fastest route”) will take 2h42m, assuming I am also willing to walk 3 miles.  The total cost would be $2.00.  My estimated cost in driving is $6 per day, but it also takes me 40 minutes (each way).  Is the financial savings worth the inconvenience?  $4 per day for a savings of roughly $960 per year, but I also loose 4 hours (two each way) of my life on the bus.  Saving isn’t only about money, in this case my lost time is more valuable to me than the $4 cash savings every workday.  What are you willing to sacrifice to save?  Is your time more valuable than money?

It depends.  On the bus you can read, tweet, check email, write a business plan, be productive.  Lost time or Found time?  Yours is a long journey.  Effective transit trips should not take this long…

The Anti-Energy Drink

Finally a drink for the rest of us, something made to calm and center the drinker, not whip us up into some sort of caffeine induced frenzy.  (I’ve had a caffeine induced frenzy and it is fun…. while it lasts but the fall is hard.)  This new crop of beverages features benefits outside of energy; focus, calming, inner beauty.  I thought I should give it a try, as it seems to mesh with my new year’s resolution of “Be A Better Person” (which is my attempt at the following; patient, calm, understanding, empowering, and generally nicer.)  If a drink can help me get there, then I say “Why not!”.  I’m testing out Nutrisoda. I love the “Immune” and “Renew” flavors.  I didn’t like the “Energy” flavor as it was too peachy.  Overall, I liked my variety pack.  I would recommend them to anyone.

I bought online at http://www.nutrisoda.com.  I purchased the variety pack as I was not sure what I was going to like.  I highly recommend it!

star wars, bullying, american girl dolls

American Girl Dolls solve problems.

There is an American Girl Doll now, Chrissa, that helps tweens deal with bullying issues.  Interesting, but I thought tweens were out of the doll phase.  Hmm…  I’m getting sidetracked, my point was going to be Do they make American Woman dolls that help with bullying issues?  Now I could really use one of those…. Adult bullying is much sneakier.  Just the other day, I was ridiculed because I happen to know that the band playing in the Cantina in Mos Eisley didn’t originally have a female singer.  Who doesn’t know that?

According to a study out of The Workplace Bullying Institute (yes, it’s real), women are the main culprits in bullying other women.  So much for sisterhood.  You can check it out here. …

random thoughts, old traditions

My New Years Resolution (Reposted)

Oh, the New Year Resolution.  Time honored and easily broken.  I am giving it a shot this year.  Instead of the usual “work out more” “eat better” “be healthier” resolutions of the past, this year I am working on my insides.  My resolution this year is simply to be a better person.  I am going to try to be more patient, understanding, calm, empowering, and nicer.  Both to myself and those around me.  For those of you who know me, you know I have a very well developed sense of equity and fairness (unfortunately that is calling card of the Iron Dog - My Chinese astrological sign is Dog and I was born in the Year of Metal) .  Counter intuitively, this skill is not helpful in being a better person.  So, alas, I am going to attempt to take a step away from “fairness” and a step toward compassion and love.

My hope is that this will turn into a new way of thinking and being and will not be swept away in a sea of stress, emotional hurts, and reactionary behavior.  May the force be with me…

Make your own cereal?

Heck Yeah!!!  I’ve been waiting for this my whole life!  Goji offers the opportunity to create custom cereal and the variety of ingredients is excellent.  You can also name your special blend anything you want.  I named mine “Eat Me” because I thought it was funny.  Giving the consumer the ability to create something totally unique has an amazing appeal.  Control (over ingredients, packaging, cost, quantity, and delivery) will speak volumes to people struggling to find a brand that speaks to them.

Love the blog design, and good luck with the launch.

Cheers.
