random thoughts, unique jewelry

Personalized Jewelry

I understand a desire to have something unique, but I just can’t wrap my head around this…. Custom jewelry that is designed from a user supplied image of a scar.  It’s my scar is the company behind this unique offering.  Based on their logic, people have stories connected to their scars and want to memorialize those memories and stories.  I don’t have any scars per se, just stretch marks from my pregnancy.  I certainly do not want to immortalize those babies!  Maybe I’m just old fashioned, but I think that I would try almost anything to hide, distract, or remove a scar.  I would love to hear from anyone who has a different opinion.

I don’t feel the need to hide my (surgical) scars. When I was younger, I was self-conscious about them, and didn’t like to take my shirt off to go swimming or anything like that, but now I’m totally cool with them. They tend to be hidden most of the time, because it’s rare that I’m topless in public, but if people see them or even ask me about them, I have no issues with that.

Having said that, I don’t think I’d want jewellery designed in the shape of any of my scars. That seems a bit odd. Of course, I’m a guy and I don’t wear jewellery. I’ll wear a wedding ring if I ever get married, but that’s about it.

The images in their gallery are almost enough to turn my stomach.

I think scars are great trophies, but the thought of wearing them decoratively is a bit out there for me.

I love my scars, from accidents, carrying the boys etc, but wearing them in the form of jewelery is just a bit weird imo!
